In this chapter, Johanna’s sudden interruption of Alvin and Tamara’s plan to "go all the way" once again brings the family situation to a standstill, as the impact of what just happened on the younger sister turns out to be unpredictable and frightening. Unable to deal with Johanna, who seems to completely block him out, Alvin has no choice but to turn his attention back to his classmates, particularly Amy, whom he gets partnered with on next day’s "field trip", clumsily engineered by Ms. Walsh… but it seems as if Morgan has taken quite an active interest in our hero as well, as she enlists his aid for some unclear project later that evening.
